Netcare, through its Akeso Umhlanga facility, is seeking a qualified Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary to join its committed healthcare team. This role offers a meaningful career in a professional psychiatric care setting, grounded in values of Care, Truth, Participation, Compassion, and Dignity.
You will be responsible for providing quality patient care, maintaining safety, infection control, hygiene, nutrition, and supporting clinical staff in various operational areas.
Key Responsibilities
Governance, Risk & Environment:
- Maintain a clean, therapeutic, and hazard-free environment
- Adhere to Netcare’s waste and safety management protocols
- Ensure correct use and maintenance of equipment
- Report risks or equipment faults promptly
Patient Care & Clinical Support:
- Provide direct care within your scope of practice
- Monitor and record vital signs
- Support patients with hygiene, nutrition, safety, and general wellbeing
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
- Encourage good personal hygiene and nutrition
- Assist patients in their daily activities (bathing, eating, resting, etc.)
- Promote sleep hygiene and ensure proper rest
Safety Monitoring & Reporting:
- Conduct safety observations, especially for high-risk patients
- Prevent and report medico-legal hazards
- Perform urine tests and maintain fluid balance
- Record all care interventions, changes in patient behavior, and abnormal signs
Administrative Support:
- Attend handovers and follow supervisor instructions
- Communicate professionally on phone and in person
- Assist with patient admission and discharge processes
- Maintain proper documentation and reporting
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary
Work Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in psychiatric nursing
- Solid understanding of the Nursing Act and Mental Health Care Act
- Familiarity with hospital and clinic protocols
- Good communication and supervisory skills
- Proficiency in record-keeping and computer literacy
